Rainbow Carrots From The Garden

I was drawn to this colourful punnet of rainbow mixed carrots and
planted them in my vegetable garden

I checked on them a few times but they didn't seem to be growing very big so
after 6 months I pulled them out

They turned out to be disappointment size - very small and
all bent and squished into themselves

I washed and peeled them chopped them up and put them into a baking tray with
olive oil, ground sea salt cracked pepper and dried mixed herbs

I wish I had some photos of them cooked but they were devoured with my Sunday roast beef and vegetables before I had the chance - sorry!

The colours were fun but they did taste a bit woody. When you can get a 1kg bag for under $1 and I had to wait for this bunch for over 6 months it's not really worth it and I wouldn't grow carrots again.

Have you waited ages to grow something and then been disappointed ?

  1. I haven't had much success with growing veggies full stop. Although, I've only really tried tomatoes and peas actually. hahha. The peas did okay but only got a small crop and the tomatoes didn't do very well, realllllly tiny crop in the first lot and the second time I tried they were all tasteless and spongey. So disappointing!

  2. Pity they didn't turn out as good as the packet picture but you still did pretty good with them! We either do really well with growing things or really badly - we did so well with pumpkins once that they grew into 2 neighbours yards...they were everywhere!

  3. Have I ever! The list would be extensive but the first one that comes to mind is eggplant. I saw them in a garden in our neighbourhood growing up a storm but I only got one measly fruit! Carrots on the other hand go well here. Maybe it's something to do with your soil?

  5. All the time!

One time I grew potatoes and I cared for them every day and then when I dug them up there was only one potato. The size of a 20 cent coin.

    I hate my black thumb.

  6. A friend of mine grows the cosmic purple carrots every year. Her kids love them.

I can't even keep a succulent alive, so I don't think I'd ever be able to grown any other type of plant. I suspect I'd probably be able to kill a cactus.
