It has become a bit of a tradition for me to put my hand up for making the starter or entree for Christmas Day and it always seems to be seafood related .... Yes us Aussies love our seafood in summer don't we!
Last year for entree I made Crayfish and Prawn Cocktails which were really special and absolutely delicious.
The year before that I made my Indian inspired Prawn and Mango pappadums which I've made a few times now they are great for a crowd.
I also made Chilled Pea Soup With Spanner Crab and served in little shot glasses was a really refreshing start to Christmas lunch.
This year I'm looking at a prawn based entree, something I can make ahead of time so I can focus on being the Hostess with the Mostess once my 30 guests arrive for lunch.
These simple Prawn and Avocado Skewers with Seafood Sauce would be easy to make ahead of time and I could make little Christmas flags for them for a festive theme.
These Mango, Chive and Prawn Cases would be a great starter to make beforehand and then assemble when everyone arrives.
These Prawn Skewers with Salsa Verde look fresh and healthy and could be made in advance and kept in the fridge until ready to serve.
I like to do a bit of a test run in the kitchen when making something new so will let you know if I come up with a winning dish!
What are you making or baking for Christmas?

Wow Michelle
ReplyDeleteYou are a star on the starter. Funnily enough my sister in law is usually responsible for the seafood starter on Christmas Day, but is going to her husbands family this year.
Thanks so much for joining in with this lovely and most helpful post.
Carolyn

DeleteThey all look yummy Michelle. Christmas Eve is my thing every year with the family and it's all about seafood!! Lisa xo
ReplyDeleteIts not Christmas without seafood on a hot summer day!
DeleteThose ALL look good! It is weird that you mentioned Christmas is in the summer for you, but that is true!! I am thinking of making a couple different cocktails for the night before Christmas. Yum!
ReplyDeleteYes its always hot at Xmas time, probably why we go for the seafood and summer salads for Xmas lunch. Thats why we do a Xmas in July so we can have a hot Xmas dinner when its our winter and cold! Yes, cocktails sound like a great way to get into the festivites ;)
DeleteIt may only be 9:15 in the morning but I am telling you I really want some prawns and mangoes - oh yum. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCandy
(Gosh I'm hungry now)
Sorry for making you hungry ... maybe a mango smoothie for breakfast then :)
DeleteThanks Michelle I will be making your Mango Chive and Prawn cases for Christmas night as we are having a Tapas night. xxx
ReplyDeleteThey would be a perfect tapas, make the cases a few days ahead and then the mix on the day and assemble just before eating :)
