Scream Of Summer

I am loving all the bright colours around this Spring/Summer season the neon yellows and oranges really scream Summer to me

 

I'm not quite brave enough to wear neon fashion but definitely tempted by some homewares like a lamp or side table for the living room

Girls Weekend Away - Yallingup, Western Australia

I haven't been on a girls weekend away in soooooooooo long so I'm just about to jump in the car and head down south with my lovely Book Club girls for a few days of relaxation and wine appreciation!

We are booked in for a wine tour (of course!) and will be staying in this modern villa on a vineyard (where else!)

I can see myself kicking back on the deck enjoying a glass of wine and some local cheese ...

Party Like A Pigeon (At Pigeonhole)

Pigeonhole is a Perth born and bred company with quaint stores popping up around the CBD who support independent artists and stock funky jewellery, clothes for guys and girls, stationary, art and cameras.

I find it impossible to go into these stores without buying something for myself or friends they have some great gift ideas.

The first store to open was in Bon Marche Arcade on Barrack Street which lures you up the arcade with the smell of fresh coffee in their nearby cafe.

The sweet little store in London Court between Hay Street and St Georges Terrace draws you in with its fun window displays.

Let's not forget Shafto Lane (not only great for Takas Kitchen cheapest sushi in Perth!) there are 2 Pigeonhole stores in this busy precinct of town.

Lastly, the newest store in the up and coming One40William has just expanded and taken over more floor space which means a whole lot more products to browse through.

To celebrate their 5th year anniversary for the month of October they have specials and competitions happening so a great time to check out their website so you don't miss out!

No More Soggy Wet Towels

I've been a bit quiet on the bathroom renovations since the mirror went up months ago, mainly because the garage extension has taken over all our free time BUT we've managed to finish off a few jobs lately like the ceiling has been patched and painted where the old fan was removed and we found a towel rack and installed.

Still to do is paint the door frame and install the new door we bought and put the handles on then we are done and done! In the meantime we have no door on our bathroom so visitors are far and few between nowadays ... no idea why?!

So about that towel rail - I was totally stuck on the type of towel rail to get we looked at so many bathroom shops and just couldn't find the right size bar to suit the number of towels with the wall space we have. We would've needed to buy 2 or 3 towel rails which was going to get expensive.

So when we saw the heated towel bars of 5 and up to 9 racks the lightbulb went off  a multiple bar rack and the novelty of a warm towel in winter - now we are onto something! So we shopped around and found Bathware Direct in East Perth were the cheapest and still a quality product so armed with their discount voucher they publish in the TV guide we bought their 9 bar heated towel rack for $222.50. I thought they would be so much more expensive (and a lot of them were) but I think this was a bit of a bargain really when you consider if we had of bought 2 racks at $100 each - instead we get 9 racks of heated goodness - you can't go wrong!

When we unpacked it however it had no power cord on the end, you need to buy your own (probably because then it can be shipped to overseas buyers as well). We haven't got around to that yet but it shouldn't be too difficult just a trip to Bunnings and feeding the wires into the new plug.
 

I couldn't bare to watch as the gorgeous wall tiles were drilled into by Mr P so I only have the after photos to show you of the rack installed. We measured and measured and measured again and checked with the level to make sure the screws were going into the right spot before picking up the drill.
 

 
The spot we decided on was behind the door which is right next to the power point so it was meant to be I say!
 

This towel rack is fantastic just hanging up towels normally (without it being plugged in) they dry straight away because of the gap between the wall and the rack the air really gets in and no more soggy wet towels!

Say it with me friends - no more soggy wet towels!

Now I have no excuse to be grumpy in the morning drying myself with a wet towel is never a nice way to start the day ... dry and fluffy is a much better way to go!

Rainbow Carrots From The Garden

I was drawn to this colourful punnet of rainbow mixed carrots and

planted them in my vegetable garden

 

 

I checked on them a few times but they didn't seem to be growing very big so

after 6 months I pulled them out

 

 

They turned out to be disappointment size - very small and

all bent and squished into themselves

 

 

I washed and peeled them chopped them up and put them into a baking tray with

olive oil, ground sea salt cracked pepper and dried mixed herbs

 

 

I wish I had some photos of them cooked but they were devoured with my Sunday roast beef and vegetables before I had the chance - sorry!

 

The colours were fun but they did taste a bit woody. When you can get a 1kg bag for under $1 and I had to wait for this bunch for over 6 months it's not really worth it and I wouldn't grow carrots again.

Fridays Letters - Dear Coffee

It has been a whirlwind week I virtually just got back from holidays had a few days in the office last week and was then out of the office most of this week at a conference ... Phew Im exhausted but still keen to share my letters at Fridays Letters link up party over at Adventures of Newlyweds.

I'm imagining I'm sitting in this adorable home library writing this weeks letters with a little espresso in hand and being surrounded by my love of books.

Dear Coffee - You have been my savour this week and I know I don't say it enough so I'm saying it now - you keep me sane thank you for your endless pots of caffeine goodness.

Dear Work Conference - It was a jam packed few days in Sydney but I made the most of the time and have come back with a brain brimming with ideas.

 

Dear Bath - Nothing soothes me after a long flight like a relaxing soak in a bath full of bubbles. Pure bliss!

 

Dear Mr P - I was only away for 3 nights but it felt like so much longer. I really missed you baby.

 

Dear Weekend - I'll be enjoying the comforts of home this weekend - my bed, my coffee machine and my foxtel remote to name a few!

Interior Design Course Overview

I thought I'd give an overview of the Interior Design course I have just finished to see if anyone else in Perth is interested in going

WHAT TO TAKE - Pack a pencil case with coloured pencils, a highlighter, pencil, pen, ruler, scissors and glue. Grab an A4 unruled notebook for notes and scribbles.

WHAT YOU GET - A large lever arch file filled with papers and exercise pages to do at home if you want homework. We were also given a colour wheel mid way through to keep and practice with.

THE VENUE - Is the Home Base Expo in Subiaco which is a one stop place for all things home related with booths set up for sellers and products. Of course at night time when I went there it was empty so a good time to have a little look around without sellers hassling you or other people around.

THE FUNCTION ROOM - Is very basic with classroom type setup up tables and chairs, the projector was used a lot to show pictures which I found really helpful. There is no catering other than a coffee/tea break with biscuits half way through the evening. I suggest you bring your own bottle of water. There was a lovely lady who bought in some baked treats (and myself who took in some choccy biscuits!).
 

 

THE INSTRUCTOR - Natalie Boyd is an interior designer who was prompt and professional. Natalie asked people not to ask her specific questions about our homes but to make it a general question that the whole class can benefit from and I understand why she teaches this way because to be interrupted by students questions every 10 minutes does make the class drag on, unless it's advice that we can all benefit from.

 

 

COST AND LENGTH - This course is run 3 times a week both mornings or evenings which is great for those that work during the day they can go to the night classes and visa versa. It is one night a week over 6 weeks. It goes for 3 hours with about a 10 minute tea and biscuit break. The cost is $300 which I felt was good value for money.

IS IT FOR YOU - If you are building or renovating I would recommend this course as a complete overview of every aspect of your home from the style of windows, type of lighting, where to put storage and picking colours. If you want a more specific topic such as bathrooms only or landscaping only they also offer a number of other courses which go into more detail about that.

If you are serious about Interior Design and want a diploma or to get employment as an Interior Designer you would probably need to go to ISDC or somewhere more advanced. This course is more for the everyday home lovers.
